Low-volume corrugated carton refers to a corrugated carton whose corrugated paperboard surface is no more than 150g/m2 and corrugated paper is no more than 127g/m2. Some manufacturers in the relatively developed regions of China's carton industry have gradually used low-ration, high-strength base papers to produce low-volume corrugated cartons. However, it should be pointed out that at present, the production of low-volume corrugated cartons has a problem of uneven quality due to many factors.
The carton carton has become a world-recognized green environment-friendly packaging product, and its market demand is increasing. However, due to the scarcity of forest resources in the world and the protection of the Earth’s water and soil resources, the harvesting of logs for the production of paper for packaging cartons has been restricted in many countries, and the wood fibre resources have been severely affected. Although the direction of papermaking is the development of grass and wood and the use of renewable resources, there is a large difference in the properties and quality of the paper itself from that of the original fiber. Future resources, whether native or renewable, will gradually decrease. Therefore, the use of low basis weight paper has gradually become the development direction of corrugated boxes. Due to the rapid development of the paper packaging industry and competition in the market, many manufacturers are blindly pursuing the cost and reducing the basis weight of the corrugated cartons (low-volume corrugated cartons) produced from low-quantity base papers, ignoring the original paper itself. The physical performance requirements and technical problems in the production process make the quality of existing low-volume corrugated cartons uneven and unstable, especially in the comprehensive strength of cartons. Although some companies have also taken some measures to control them, their effectiveness cannot meet customer requirements. First, the main status quo of low volume corrugated carton
At present, in Guangdong, Fujian, and some manufacturers in Jiangsu, Zhejiang, and Shanghai, low-volume, high- and medium-strength base papers are used to produce low-volume corrugated cartons. The so-called low-volume corrugated carton refers to a corrugated box with a surface with a paper size of 150 g/m2 or less, and a corrugated paper with a corrugated paperboard size of 127 g/m2 or less (this definition is accurate and remains to be explored). Some manufacturers in Guangdong and Fujian have reduced the surface and paper to below 127g/m2, the lowest ones are around 0g/m2, and the use of corrugated paper has dropped to about 90g/m2.
However, the low-quantity corrugated boxes produced by some of its existing manufacturers have relatively common quality defects: the general carton strength is low. Whether it is the breaking strength of cardboard, the side pressure strength, or the compressive strength test of the entire empty carton, the detection value is low. In particular, the use of Class C corrugated base paper or unsized corrugated base paper is even worse. If it is a three-layer paperboard, it can basically be used as an inner box, but it cannot meet the requirements of the outer packaging carton. Part of the paperboard carton board is the phenomenon of facial paper through the phenomenon of ribs or ribs, creases, paper from the pitting and other phenomena, the surface roughness is poor. The printing effect, especially the printing of dots or large layouts, spreads out at the bottom and the dots, the layout is blurred, and the level is unclear. In addition, the cardboard is easily deformed and warped, which not only affects the printing effect, but also reduces the compressive strength of the carton after molding.
Second, the reasons for the instability of the quality of low-volume corrugated boxes and technical measures
The problem I mentioned above is mainly due to the low strength of the board and the failure to meet the low quantitative and high strength requirements. Therefore, I believe that carton manufacturers should design their paper materials scientifically and rationally according to the performance, weight, and stacking requirements of the customer's product contents. They should not blindly and casually use low-quantity base paper. The production of low-volume corrugated cartons should be controlled from the performance and quality requirements of the base paper itself, and research and improvement should be carried out on production equipment and technology to ensure the quality of low-quantity corrugated cartons.
(I) The factors and technical requirements of the base paper itself
The ability to produce high-quality, low-quantity corrugated board, the physical properties of the base paper is a key factor. To use low-weight base paper to replace high-quantity base paper, first consider the base paper's own burst index and ring pressure index, and secondly, consider the quantitative stability, moisture, and tensile strength of the base paper. Therefore, to make QuanZhou quantify the base paper, it is necessary to put forward higher requirements on the physical properties of the base paper by the supplier, and strictly test it. Then when the paper mill produces low-quantity base paper, it should also be technically controlled: to ensure the accuracy of the equipment. And set the pulp volume automatic control or computer control system to ensure the stability of the raw paper quantitative.
In addition, the fiber quality of the base paper should be guaranteed so that the paper has high physical properties. Low-grade base paper should use better fibers, and if it is recycled fiber raw materials, it should be used. Although the cost will be higher, the price of low-quantity base papers will also be relatively high. Only in this way can the basic physical properties and quality of the base paper be guaranteed, in particular the crush strength and bursting resistance.
Speaking of controlling the tightness and sizing degree of the base paper, it is necessary to adjust and improve the paper mill from the equipment, such as automatic adjustment of the pressure of the press roll. Because of the tightness of the base paper, it will affect the physical properties of the paper, such as the burst strength; too tight the paper will become too thin, which is not conducive to the compression of the carton. If the sizing degree is too high, the adhesive strength of the cardboard will be affected and the paper will become brittle. When the paper is too low, the paper will easily absorb moisture and become soft, affecting the strength of the carton, including vertical pressure and pressure.
